Counselling Approach

Jelisa is in her final year of the Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Trinity Western University.

In her role as therapist intern with MSM, Jelisa seeks to listen, empathize, and walk with others through their life’s journey, and believes that growth and healing is always possible. Jelisa feels honoured to join with clients by supporting them toward their goals and empowering them to live more freely and fully as the person they have been created to be.

Jelisa’s therapeutic framework is attachment based, trauma informed, and systemic in nature. She believes that people are created to be in relationship with God and with one another, and that healing occurs in the context of safe and supportive relationships. Her desire is to provide a warm, validating, and compassionate atmosphere that can aid in the healing process.

With the use of empirically supported therapeutic techniques drawn from Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Jelisa collaborates with clients and invites them to join with Jesus Christ in seeking His powerful ministry of healing.

In various capacities over the last decade, Jelisa has worked with and supported youth, young adults, adults, and individuals with developmental disabilities toward growth, healing, and healthy development. Her areas of clinical interests include: anxiety, depression, relational issues, grief and loss, stress management, emotional regulation, and trauma.

Faith & Family

Jelisa has experienced the transforming power of Christ’s ministry through prayer, therapeutic strategies, and the presence and support of others. It has been an on-going and freeing journey for her to steadily grow in becoming more secure in her identity and place of belonging as it is found in Christ during both joyful and difficult seasons of life.

Through the personal love and grace Jesus Christ offers, Jelisa has found hope and contentment in the identity she receives as a child of God. Embracing this identity gives her the freedom to be confident, trusting in the Truth of the One who loves and knows her best. Jelisa desires to see others set free by the power and grace of God, to feel empowered and equipped to become more fully who He created them to be.

Jelisa lives in Chilliwack and has been married to her husband Erick for nearly five years. When she is not studying or working, Jelisa enjoys connecting with family and friends, spending time in God’s life-giving creation, and reading a good book.
